Shaka
Hislop
Pompey's Current Number One and voted into the Division 1 team of the
season for his consistent performances this season |
|
Jamie Vincent
Not Featured in the side this season and must be wondering what Harry
thinks of him and where his future lies. |
|
Eddie Howe
Mr Unlucky this season played approx 15 mins of the 1st game against
Forest and then injured his knee and has been out ever since, still on
long road to recovery. |
|
Hayden
Foxe
Aussie Defender and a touch of class at the back which Pompey have been
missing since the likes of Awford and Symons in the early 90s.
Has the ability to bring the ball out defence and into midfield, could
be an important attribute in the Premier League |
|
Arjan
De Zeeuw
ZEEUW!!!! they chant and he deserves all the accolades. Has been a rock
at the back this season. Organisational skills will be tested to the full
next season. |
|
Kevin
Harper
Started the season with an uncertain future at the club but, due to injuries
at various stages to Stone and laterly Taylor has earned himself a new
contract with some improved performances and important goals. Played through
pain of hernia at the end of the season to help Pompey over the finish
line |
|
Svetoslav
Todorov
Came to the club at the end of the previous season and according to Harry
was an excellent finisher. Pompey fans may have disagreed to start with
but this season has been one the most important cogs. He has proved that
Harry's judgement and faith in him was justified and a final game hatrick
at Bradford earned him the Division 1 golden boot. |
|
Paul
Merson
Super Paul Merson has been responsible for the most dramatic turnaround
in fortunes this season. As captain of the side he has weighed in with
goals, assists and some sumptous performances to wow the Fratton faithful |
|
Nigel
Quashie
Last years captain gave up captaincy to Merson without any fuss and is
starting to show the undoubted potential that he has can be fulfilled.
He can become a complete midfielder with the ability to shoot, tackle
and run all day long, Merse reckons that he should play for England if
he realises that massive promise in the Premier League. |
|
Lassina
Diabate
Brought to the club this season to provide some steel in the midfield
that perhaps could be lacking. Shown to be very strong in the tackle and
sometimes too strong. Time will tell whether he has the class to make
it in the Premier. |
|
Matthew
Taylor
This could be the answer to the problems England have been having on
the left side in recent years. Awesome going forward and the stamina to
be a long distance runner. Injury kept him out of the run in, hopefully
back fully fit to show what he can do in the Premier League. |
|
Courtney Pitt
Showed last season that he has massive potential on the left wing. Plenty
of skill and the pace to go past people. Has fallen out of favour this
season and will probably need to show Harry a greater level of consistency. |
|
Vincent
Pericard
On Loan Juventus players at Pompey what is going on?? Before Mr Redknapp
and Mr Storrie moved into the club this kind of thing just never happened.
Big, stong and quick with a healthy dose of skill, can appear raw and
ungainly but over the course of the season has improved gradually to put
in some assured performances in the last few game of the season. |
|
Steve
Stone
The former England Star was released by Graham Taylor at Villa and after
impressing during an initial loan spell made his move permanent. Looks
as if Taylor has made another ricket by letting him go. Put in some energietic
performances and looks to have overcome some niggly hamstring problems. |
|
Yakubu
Aiyegbeni
The Yak looks to be the player who can really shine in the Premier League.
Very quick, strong and can turn on a sixpence leaving defenders trailing
in his wake. Alex Ferguson was impressed when he heard that Pompey had
secured to services of the Yak after he had shown what he can do during
some livewire performances in the Champions League for Maccabi Haifa. |
|
Carl Tiler
Another who has not featured this season apart from a couple of appearances
on the bench. Perhaps his future lies away from the club. |
|
Markus Heikkinen
Finnish international defender brought in this season as cover for the
old hands at the back, not really had much of a chance as of yet apart
from coming on for the injured De Zeeuw away to coventry. Has been putting
in some assured performances in the reserves. |
|
Gary
O'Neil
Englands Captain at under 19 level and now knocking on the door for under
21 honours, has grown into the central midfield role this season and made
big impacts when coming on from the bench. The biggest compliment that
can be payed is that when Merse has a rare off game this is the man Pompey
fans want to fill his boots. |
|
Neil Barrett
Had a promising start to his Pompey career under Graham Rix but has strugled
to compete for a first team place this season. A compact combative midfielder
and he still has time on his side. |
|
Shaun Cooper
Promising right sided player who plays most of his football at right
back will hope to learn from the likes of Steve Stone to become a first
team regular. |
|
Yoshi
Kawaguchi
Came to Pompey with a big reputation and captain of the Japanese national
side. Had a poor first season and has played second fiddle to Shaka this
season, has impressed with his attitiude and never complained. Came on
as substitute at Bradford on the last day of the season and many people
think that could have been a farewell performance. |
|
Linvoy
Primus
Pompeys player of the year. Started the season out of the side and only
came in due to injuries to other players. Since then he hasn't looked
back and has been irrepressible as part of Pompey's back three.
Deservedly given a new contract and we all look forward to seeing him
do his stuff in the Premier League. |
|
Deon Burton
Started this season on loan from cash strapped Derby, scored some important
early season goals only to get injured and return to Derby to regain fitness.
He has not looked as effective since returning this time on a permanent
basis. |
|
Gianluca Festa
Uncle Festa has had an exiting season due to the fact that he had to
fill in as an emergency wing back on occasions. Pompey fans were impressed
with his tackling at the back and strong running and the ability to play
an excellent cross when the opportunity presents itself. Has now left
to go back to his native Italy |
|
Tim
Sherwood
Signed mid-season from Spurs after a falling out with manager Glenn Hoddle.
Was obviously lacking match fitness during the first couple of matches
but, has grown as the season came to head. Provides some guile and ball
winning skills in the middle of the park. |
|
Lee
Bradbury
The boy from the rock has succesfully fought his way back from a career
threatening knee injury and spent a succesful loan period at Sheffield
Wed. Came back to a massive reception in his first game back in the Pompey
side ironically against Sheffield Wednesday. The cheers only got louder
when he proceded to score.
|
|
Carl Pettefer
Youthful Midfielder has been impressing on loan at Exeter City. |
|
Carl Robinson
Joined Pompey on a short term contract with the view of earning himself
a longer term deal. Started the season well in the Sherwood role and won
himself an improved contract. Has since fallen out of favour and was shipped
out on loan towards the end of the season. |
|
Lewis Buxton
Another boy from the rock, Lewis hasn't featured in the ream this season
and spent periods of it out on loan with Carl Pettefer at Exeter. Impressed
greatly last season as the most consistent member of a shakey Pompey back
line. Strong and quick enough to make great recovery tackles, he surely
must be one to watch for the future.
|
|
Mark Burchill
Former Celtic Striker had a massive impact when he signed last season
and struck up an instant partnership with Peter Crouch. He then suffered
a serious knee ligament injury in a training ground collision with Robert
Prosinecki. Battled back only to find no favour with Harry and has gone
on loan to Dundee in order to regain fitness and form. Devastating pace
and a good finisher. Pompey fans have been left wondering if there is
a conflict between this fans favourite and King Harry. |
|
Richard Hughes
Signed from Bournemouth and has put in some good performances when he
has had the chance. Lost part of a finger in a freak accident with a door.
Spent the tail end of the season on loan at Grimsby. Meastro Merson believes
he has the talent to be a future Scotland international |
|
Rowan Vine
Thrown in at the deepend last season and is now on loan at Brentford. |
|
Patrick
Berger
Signed on a free transfer from Liverpool at the end of his contract. High hopes that he make a big impact on the south coast. |
|
Boris
Zivkovic
Croation captain signed from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer. Has
Champions league and World Cup experience and got to the champions league
final with his previous club. Versatile defender can play anywhere across
the back line. |
|
Dejan
Stefanovic
Left sided defender signed for a club record £1.8m from Dutch club
Vitesse Arnhem. Highly rated by Harry, good in the air and at home with
the ball at his feet. |
|
Teddy
Sheringham
Former England international with over 50 caps and has played in the
world cup with his country against the best in the world. Won 3 trophies
in 1 season with United (Premiership, FA Cup and the Champions League).
Scored the dramatic equaliser in the final of the champions league final
in injury time and had a hand (head) in the winner. |
